VICE-PRESIDENT EVENTS

Dom Szabo

International Business (4th year)

2009-11 President-Ski & Snowboard Club

2008-09 Safety and Equipment Officer-Ski & Snowboard Club

Dom ‘The Stig’ Szabo, is what one might call a tipperty top chap, and with his un-rivalled knowledge of economy, business and the internal workings of his Audi he’s always keen to give some chat about some random stuff we don’t really understand! Thankfully this banter only rarely rears its ugly head as Dom’s usually busy chatting, organising and successfully running the Ski and Snowboard club, all while dipping his fingers in as many sport club pies as possible!

While running Ski and Snowboard club, Dom has earned himself a half blue and grabbed a bronze for the BUISC team boarder duals and BUSC Main Event Boarder X. Along with these sporting achievements, he organised the super successful DUSSC Rail Jam on the wettest day this century!
As Dom comes from a land far, far, far away, with cultures so strange, some say that; he really only has the best time in threes, as pairs never really cut the cheese, he went fishing or something to Alaska for a month, he has slept in his Audi even though it was in the garage and his bed was only 5 metres away, he truly believes that sharing really is caring, he is scared of vegetables and that he used to snowboard on the Slovakian national team!
Despite his strange ways, it is Dom’s excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and confidence that have made him an exemplary sports club president, and it is on these foundations that he will shine as the Vice President of Events at the Sports Union.

HONORARY SECRETARY

Fiona Black

Medicine (4th year)

2011-12 Club Captain – Women’s Rugby

2010-11 SU Exec – Campus Sport Officer

2010-11 Club Secretary  – Women’s Rugby

2009-10 Events Co-Coordinator – Dance Club

2009-10 Tour Convenor – Women’s Rugby

2008-09 Performance Captain – Dance Club

2008-09 Social Secretary – Women’s Rugby

Having served as campus sports officer last year, Fiona is no stranger to the sports exec. As club captain for the women’s rugby team, she has played a pivotal role in the running and organisation of the club and has been a huge asset both on and off the pitch.

Unlike most female rugby players, Fiona prides herself on being a “lady” and can often be spotted pirouetting at the side of the pitch (or wherever the mood takes her). Her days with the university dance club also serve her well on the liquid dance floor, where she can be found busting a move on a Wednesday night, or on a Thursday morning when she returns to claim her belongings.

Despite the intensive timetable of a Boot Camp fanatic (and fourth year medic), Fiona’s dedication to the sports union has been unfaltering. When a challenge presents itself she meets it with enthusiasm and won’t hesitate to get her claw(s) stuck in. Whatever is expected of her as honorary secretary, she will be sure to give just a little bit more.

CAMPUS SPORT OFFICER

Emma Lorimer

English (3rd year)

2011-12 Club Secretary – Women’s Rugby

2010-11 Social Secretary –Women’s Rugby

Emma joined the rugby team as a “Fresh” and shiny new first year and was immediately identified as a “keeper”. She has since then proven herself to be an invaluable member of the team, with unrivalled enthusiasm and dedication. The combination of her compassion for others and her love for the club makes Emma the go to girl for anything which needs done. There is no doubt that Emma will apply the same enthusiasm to her organisation of Campus Sport events. Game for anything sporty, Emma is more than qualified to take on the role as Campus Sport Officer and having attended almost all the events of previous years – short of risking drowning at Waterpolo- she has plenty of experience of what the role requires. Emma will do anything with an element of competition and the challenge of Campus Sport is sure to go down as another of Emma’s victories!

Her enviable and boundless energy never fails to amaze with no need for sleep so long as there’s banter! She can be spotted at many ofDundee’s licensed establishments, but be warned, once the upside down grin has made an appearance any hope of intelligible conversation will be long gone!

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Abdullah Mahmood

History (4th year)

2010-12 Communications Officer-Cricket Club

The History student with a penchant for sporting history, has been a loyal and hardworking member of the Sports Union since his arrival at the University three years ago, both as part of the Boat Club and the Cricket Club. His hard work in the role of Communications Secretary has aided the cricket club a great deal during the 2010/2011 academic year, and I’m sure he’ll take this form into the same role with the Sports Union Executive, as well as continuing the role with the Cricket Club.

A real Mr 100% Abdullah is one of the most conscientious and reliable lads you could wish to know, meticulously organised, with timekeeping a particularly strong suit of his, as he is genuinely the only person I know who turns up early to parties! A loyal and friendly lad, he’ll be an asset to everyone involved with the Sports Union this year, just as long as you don’t get him started on Rod Laver’s forehand, then you won’t be able to shut him up for about 3 hours!

TRANSPORT OFFICER

Ian Higson

Phd Geotechnical Engineering

2010-11 Commodore-Sailing Club

2009-10 Treasurer-Sailing Club

Ian has been at Dundee University for a long time, some may say too long but he rarely comments, other than to say once your out all you want to do is get back in. After 7 years of living in the city centre he moved to his retirement village of Broughty Ferry where he can often be seen out collecting the morning paper or eating an ice cream on his favourite bench

He is a well known figure on the doors of DUSA and around the city, making the world a better place where safety rules.
After a short stint in the rugby club in his 1st and 2nd years he moved on to try something new with the sailing club, progressing to the rank of commodore and representing the club at British Uni’s on two occasions.

ADMINISTRATOR

Gill Ramsay

In her short time in the Sports’ Union Gill has established herself as the ‘Mum’ of the office. She is the Queen of gossip (and of spreadsheets) and loves nothing more than a natter over a cuppa, the kettle is always on in Gill’s office!

As a previous ‘Coach of the Year’, Gill’s ambition for the Sports’Unionwill be to introduce mandatory swimming lessons for all members. But don’t be fooled by Gill’s cheery smile, contagious laugh and witty banter, if you step out of line you will have to face everyone’s worst nightmare… a Mother’s look of disappointment!

Gill has been a huge asset to Sports’Unionover the last couple of months so if you need anything from a minibus to a new spreadsheet then Gill is the woman to speak to!

PIPER

Piper the Penguin is the Sports’ Union mascot so you can find in the Sports’ Union office or at the nearest sporting event. Piper is a former South Pole international ice hockey player and has competed in fishing at a world championship level. Piper has tried his hand at glacier bowling and curling and obviously he loves to ski. Piper came toDundeeon the Discovery and now spends all his time sleeping, eating fish and supporting Dundee Uni in all its sporting challenges!!!
