Dundee was again the host of the SSS Conference Cup finals and there were four Dundee sides competing on the day. Men’s Basketball, Mixed Badminton, Women’s Hockey and Women’s Tennis were all in action and each ended that day as Scottish Champions!!! Great stuff guys!!!

The Sport Union week ended with the social highlight of year, The Blues and Colours Dinner!!! Over 250 Sports Union members and VIPs invaded the Invercarse Hotel for a night sure to last long in the memory (well for some people). The Blues and Colours Awards would also be the moment where the winners of the Most Progressive Club of the Year, Team of the Year and the Club of the Year would be announced. A quite frankly outstanding night was had by all with some questionable ceilidh dancing; even more questionable beverages being offered to the SU exec and the SU taking over the Union upon their arrival from the Invercarse.

The SU Election was a close fought affair with the three positions of President, VP-Events and Honorary Secretary being contested. Andy Smart of Canoe defeated Dom Szabo of Ski in the race for President while Mark McCall and Jennifer Wood of Karate and Canoe respectively won very tight elections for VP-Events and Hon. Sec. Nicky Cook would win a by-election for the position of Transport Officer later that month.

Thursday 8th of March saw the first ever Dundee Celebrations event take place right on Campus Green. As part of the Inspire events, Dundee Celebrations was an opportunity for Dundee to celebrate the Olympic ideals both sporting and cultural. With a mixture of Olympic and Paralympic sports on the go including, VI Football, Rowing and sit down Volleyball the event saw almost 400 people come through and take part. A great day for all those that came.

The 5th Annual Tayside Varsity Challenge promised to be the closest and biggest yet with cricket, tennis and waterpolo all added to the line-up this year. After last year’s 12.5-1.5 win for Dundee, Abertay were expected to mount a serious challenge with a number of strong sides including Men’s Hockey, Men’s Football and Golf. Abertay took an early lead with a victory in the Golf however at Fortress ISE it was all Dundee with wins for Cricket, Badminton, Tennis, Volleyball, Netball, Tennis, Waterpolo and Men and Women’s Basketball. Thing were much tighter down at Riverside with wins for Abertay in both Men’s football fixtures and in Men’s Hockey. They also drew with Women’s Hockey and Women’s Football. However Men’s Rugby and Gaelic Football ensured Dundee took the spoils and Dundee ended the day 12-5 winners!!!

That makes it Dundee 5 Abertay 0. Long may the Dundee dominance continue!

Recognition must also be given to Men’s Basketball 1st team who are undefeated in 13 games in tier 2. The boys are 6 points clear at the top of the table so are looking promising for promotion at the end of this season. The tea have also been doing incredibly well in all their local league games. Well done guys!

The final contender for Team of the Month for November was the Netball 1st team. The girls are undefeated in all 6 games this season and are currently sitting in second place in the table miles ahead of any other contenders and only 3 points behind Edinburgh who are at the top. Keep up the good work girls!!
