Equestrian

We are a friendly club who pride ourselves on catering for all riding abilities as well as having a very active social side. Whether you’ve never sat on a horse before, or have years of experience, there’s a place in our club for you!
All transport is provided by us to our club activities.

Weekly lessons are held for club members every Tuesday evening at Crieff Hydro Riding Centre. Each hour-long lesson costs £25 and this includes free transport to and from campus. They operate on a sign-up basis, so you can come as often or as little as you like, though be sure to sign up quickly each week if you want to go as spaces are limited! Our lessons are split up by ability level, so you can work at a level that you feel comfortable with and can move up at your own pace. Liz, our coach, tailors her teaching to the individual. Riding hats can be easily provided at the yard.

We have two teams successfully competing in BUCS leagues. Competitions involve both dressage and showjumping, using borrowed horses, and take place on various Wednesdays throughout the year. Being on teams does require a greater level of commitment to the club than just attending open lessons, but it’s a great way to develop your riding ability as well as have a lot of fun!

As of 2018/19, we are proudly working with The Brae Riding for the Disabled in Dundee and introducing weekly lessons for students who consider themselves to have a disability. These cost a donation of £10 to the charity for a 30 minute lesson, where riders will be fully supported to whatever level they need by trained volunteers. Transport is covered by the club. If you would like more information on how to apply for lessons with The Brae please get in touch. The DUEC committee also welcome any club members to get involved should they want to volunteer!

As of September 2018, we are also introducing weekly stable management and groundwork sessions to the club! Asides from the one-off club membership fee, these are free to attend as often or as little as you’d like. You’ll get the chance to learn how to care for ponies and learn about training and exercising horses on the ground.
Socials: We are a very sociable club, hosting movie nights, pub crawls, and even a free-of-charge Christmas mounted games each year. We also have a weekly social at our sponsor pub with free food, allowing everyone to catch up in a non-horsey environment!
