Below you will find answers to the questions we are asked the most about our sports, gym, swimming pool and anything in-between.

Q: When and how can I purchase a sport membership?

A: Sport membership is available to purchase in person at ISE reception on campus throughout the year. However, we only offer a full year membership or one semester membership regardless of when it is purchased. Follow this link for more information about sport membership and how to buy it.

Q: How do I join a club?

A: Club matriculation is available online from the start of each academic year and is available to purchase throughout the year. We do, however, strongly encourage you to matriculate with your chosen club in the first month of the academic year as this significantly helps your chosen club with finance planning and administration. Visit this site if you’d like to matriculate with any of our clubs and follow the instructions.

Q: How much is it to join a club?

A: Each club sets their own matriculation fee which is usually in a range of £25 to £60. Most clubs offer a one semester membership as well.

Q: What is the difference between sport membership and club matriculation?

A: Matriculation with a club is not equal to purchasing a sport membership. Sport membership gives you access to training facilities which must be purchased alongside the club matriculation. Club matriculation money goes directly to your club’s account which the club committee then uses throughout the year to repair or buy new equipment, pay tournament entry fees etc.

Q: What is included in the sport membership?

A: The sport membership gives you unlimited access to any club sessions either at ISE facilities on campus or down at Riverside Sports Ground. You do not need to purchase a sport membership for every club, your sport membership serves for as many clubs as you like. The sport membership also gives you access to the swimming pool & sauna which are located in DUSA building on campus just a stone’s throw away from the ISE.

Q: Does the sport membership give me access to the university gym?

A: No. Gym (Exercise) membership is to be purchased separately from ISE. Additionally, there is an option to purchase sport+exercise package which is cheaper than purchasing sport and exercise packages separately. Follow this link for more information about exercise and sport+exercise packages.

Q: Can I join more than one sports club?

A: Yes. You can matriculate with as many clubs as you like out of the 45+ clubs on offer.

Q: How do I start a new sport club?

A: The best way is to visit us at the Sports Union Office (located in the ISE on campus) anytime between 9am to 5pm where you can speak to someone from our team (look for Gill she’s marvellous) and they’ll be more than happy to help you out and provide everything you need to start your own club!

Q: Whom should I contact if I have further questions not covered here or if I’m not sure about something?

A: Drop us an email on, call us on 01382 386048 or visit us in our office!
